Medieval Castle

According to archaeological sources the castle was built in the 13th century and it was rebuild on the site of an earlier Byzantine castle near the town’s old harbour. As indicated, the castle was much larger in its original form. Later the Venetians making many modifications to it in order it could be used in the defences of the town.

There is a legend, which tells, that on the way to the Holy Land, Richard the Lionheart – the King of England and leader of the 3rd Crusade – landed near Amathous and in the castle’s chapel in 1191 he has celebrated his marriage to Berengaria of Navarre, crowning her as Queen of England.

During Ottomans invention in 1570, the castle was conquered and used as a jail and garrison. Later during British Rule, police station and place of detainment was founded in the castle.

Present days the Medieval Castle of Limassol holds The Cyprus Medieval Museum with exhibits that include Medieval tombstones, pottery, weapons, crosses and coins, superb silver Byzantine era plates

Promenade – Molos

Molos – municipal park by the sea shore in the center of Limassol. This multifunctional seaside park stretches from the center of the city all the way of Olympians coast and ends in the old port.

Agia Napa Church

Beautiful Agia Napa Church was built in the end of the 19th century – early 20th century, on the ruins of an older, smaller Byzantine church.

There are two different opinion regarding name of the church. One sources believe that the church heritage its name from a temple built which was build in Frankish period, dedicated to the Holy Nappe of St. Berenice, known by the name of ‘Saint Nape’ as for the other source the church owns its name from an icon of the Virgin Mary, and thus is dedicated to her.

Its present look, the church has got in 1906 – it is three-aisled, iconostasis and frescoes on the dome are made of marble, and contains icon of Agia Napa.

Wine Museum in Erimi village

The Cyprus Wine Museum is located at the rim of the wine-producing countryside – in the village of Erimi.

Next to the beach situated one of the famous archaeological sites of Cyprus- ancient Kourion remains which worth to be visited.

Kourion Archaeological Site

Remain of Kourion are one of the most remarkable on the island among archaeological sites. This place was one of the island’s most significant city-kingdoms in antiquity. The kingdom was perched on the hills and overlooked and controlled the valley of the river Kouris but in 365 AD due to severe earthquake the kingdom was destroyed.

Nowadays, many significant finds, can be viewed at the site.

The whole remain of Kourion comprised of: Greco-Roman theatre which was build in the 2nd century BC, and up till now it is used for theatrical and musical performances, the ‘House of Eustolios’ which use to be a private villa on the east of the theatre, the ‘House of Achilles’ with remarkable mosaic floors and the ‘House of the Gladiators’, the baths and Roman Agora.

Sanctuary of Apollon Hylates

The sanctuary of Apollon Hylates was significant religious centre and experienced numbers of changes and  alterations during different periods of the history. Being a main protector God (God of the Woodland) of Kourion, it is believed that he was worshipped from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD at this site.

Present days, the majority of the monuments on the site, belong to restorations which were held on the site around 1st century AD and comprise of partly restored Apollo’s temple, pilgrim halls, bath complex, “palaistra” and a holy precinct.

Kolossi Medieval Castle

Originally Kolossi castle was build in 13th century but its present look, it carries from 15th century, after being rebuild.

The castle is very good example of a military architecture of these times. In 1291, it was Grand Commandery of the Knights of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem. During their reside on the island, the Knights produced and exported a sweet wine, which known as the ‘vin de Commanderie’.

Commandaria wine has become one of the island’s traditional wines also its holds one of the oldest wine names in the world.

Additionally, on the side of the castle, can be seen ruins of the sugar mill dated of 14th century.

Birthplace of Aphrodite

‘Petra tou Romiou’(‘rock of the Greek’ in Greek) considered being mythical birthplace of Goodness – Aphrodite. This beautiful place is located on the southwest coast of the Pafos city and occupying one of the most delightful coastlines of the island. As legend has it, Goodness of Love and Beauty was born in the sea foam and rose from the waves on this particular beach.

Present days one popular myths around this place is saying, that it can bring various blessings, including eternal youth and beauty, good luck, fertility and true love if you swim around the rock three times.

But there is one more legend which is connected with this shore, more specifically to massive rock formations. The legend tells, that the Byzantine hero – Digenis Akritas casted the rocks there in order to protect access to the bay from Saracens Arabs (7th-10th centuries).

Limassol Municipal

The Municipal Park is located at the seafront road of Limassol. This impressive park is covering 60.000m2 and has big number of trees eucalyptuses, pines and cypresses. Municipal Park is belonging to one of the most historical parts of the city, which exists more than 100 years.

It provides variety of playgrounds and games, picnic areas, walking paths, different snack cafes, open air theatre and the pearl of the park, the Zoo.

Monastery of Omodos

The Monastery of the Holy Cross is significant part of Cyprus’s cultural heritage as well as it is one of the oldest and most historic monasteries of the island. Situated in village Omodos built at the heart of the community.

In accordance with legend, the Monastery was settled before St. Helen’s arrival in Cyprus in 327 AD later village settled around the monastery. From 1917 the monastery was given to Omodos’s inhabitants and some years later it was abundant of its last monks and was converted to a parish.

The Monastery evolved to a great place of worship and gained significant reputation after several miracles originate by the Cross.

Amathus Archaeological Site

These remains of ancient city Amathus are located on the southern part of Limassol. The traces of human presences in the surrounding area dating back to Neolithic period but as for the city itself, there is no specific date of its foundation.

The archeological site, is separated on two parts, one is on the ground when another par is under the sea.

On the visible part can be seeing columns made of marble with beautiful spirals, vast cobbled areas, toward the top of the hill, there are series of dwellings ( dated from Greek period), two Acropolis with series of tombs (which remain up till now untouched).

During the digs, big numbers of unique handmade items were discovered. Most of the findings exhibited in local museums (Cypriot History Museum in Nicosia and District Museum of Limassol) but also at New York Metropolitan and the main one is at The Louvre in Paris.

St. George Alamanos Monastery

The monastery of Agios Alamanos is situated in Monagroulli village its south part. The Holly monastery built in the name of the Witness Georgios Tropeoforos.

It was built in a byzantine architecture with catholicon in the middle of the courtyard. Rooms of the monks were build around the catholicon and additionally to the monastery, there are another four chapels build. Each which chapel has been dedicated to a saint , the Agious Pandes (small byzantine temple in the cemetery), Agiou Nektariou (larger chapel at the square of the monastery), Agiou Stephanou (at the monastery gate) and chapel near the cave Elder Germanou Stavrovounioti, dedicated to saints Germano Patriarch of Konstantinopole and Georgio Alamano.

Approximately at the beginning of 20 th century, monastery had some transformations, from men‘s it was changed to a women‘s and in 1949 the monastery got official recognition from the Church, as being women’s monastery.

Holy Monastery of St. Nicholas

A beautiful small chapel was founded in AD 327 by the first Cyprus governor, Kalokeros and protected by St. Helena.

There is a story behind the monastery’s name. The time of building of the monastery happen a severe drought and island got filled with poisonous snakes. All this was bringing a lot of difficulties for building process. But the solution was found and large shipment of cats from Palestine and Egypt was brought.

Today, the monastery is a home and shelter for big number of cats.

Dasoudi Beach

Dasoudi beach is located in the heart of the tourist area of Limassol. It is one of the town’s most popular coastal strips stretched for 1 km along the shore. This beautiful place can offer more than you might need for the perfect day out.

Along with beach there is a small forest (‘dasoudi’ in Greek) with its tranquil pathway all the way through. This footpath trailing is just perfect for jogging, strolling or just for relaxing on the benches with sea view.

Perfect beach with its golden sands and shallow seawater, can’t be more perfect for spending a good time with family or friend. There are facilities on the beach provided such: children’s playground, toilets, bicycle station, showers, changing rooms, water sports, sun beds, umbrellas and diving centre, beach volleyball court, and Olympic size swimming pool, a variety of restaurants, cafes.

Cyprus Historic and Classic Motor Museum

This unique ( one of a kind, automobile museum in Cyprus) museum was founded in 2000 due to the vision of veteran Rally Racing champion of International and Cypriot rally competitions, Mr. Dimi Mavropoulos, and opened its door to visitors on February 2014. It’s covering area of 1000 square meters and exhibits historic and unique classic car.

Archaeological Museum

District Archaeological Museum of Limassol exhibits rich and impressive collection of antiquities delivered from excavations at different archaeological sites in the Limassol region. This collection represents items from the Neolithic age to the Roman period.

The collection being separated in three rooms and divided into three main categories. There is a pottery room, exhibiting pottery from different historical periods, second room which exhibits jewelry, coins, and lamps, also copper made tools and objects and last, third room, represents tombstones, limestone artifacts, capitals, inscriptions, marble artifacts and sculptures.


Seashore beautiful village Zygi, is located between Limassol and Larnaca, stretching along breathtaking coast line. Its name, village heritage from Greek word for weight ( zygizo). Main attraction of village is fish shelter. All village is surrounded by the premium class traditional fish taverns with outstanding sea views, what attracts diners from all over the Cyprus.

Traditional fishing trips are available within the picturesque fish shelters. Fishermen will demonstrate old fishing methods and tell tales of the sea.
